Twitch streamer Lacy finally reveals the truth behind his ₹10 lakh Japan restaurant bill: ‘I got it wrong’

What was supposed to be a restaurant visit in Japan turned into a pretty uncomfortable situation for Twitch streamer Lacy. At one point, he believed he was facing a bill of $12,000 (roughly ₹10 lakh), and his reaction during a livestream quickly caught the internet’s attention. But there’s more to the story than what viewers initially saw.Lacy has now spoken about the incident, saying he misunderstood what the restaurant staff were telling him because of a language barrier. He also admitted that his frustration got the better of him when he returned to his livestream. The controversy began when viewers allegedly spotted a QR code on his table at Zauo Shibuya in Tokyo. Some reportedly used it to place food orders, turning what should have been a normal dining experience into a problem for the streamer and the restaurant.Things became even more complicated when the restaurant was reportedly said to have disputed his claims. Lacy has now offered his explanation, and it changes an important part of the original story.

Why did Lacy think he had to pay ₹10 lakh?

In his clarification post, Lacy, whose real name is Nicholas Fosc, explained that he genuinely thought the restaurant expected him to cover the entire $12,000 bill.He said he was willing to pay it at the time and even suggested that the extra food could be given to families rather than going to waste. There was also a livestream interruption to deal with. Wanting to get back to his audience, Lacy left his assistant to handle the remaining arrangements with the restaurant. The problem was that he hadn’t fully understood the situation before returning online.Still convinced that he owed around ₹10 lakh, he started talking about the incident on stream. He later admitted that he was frustrated and made comments without knowing the complete details. In other words, the version of events he initially shared wasn’t based on what he eventually discovered about the bill.

Lacy says the restaurant only charged him for extra food

This is where his latest explanation makes a big difference.Lacy said he eventually found out that he wasn’t expected to pay the entire $12,000. The amount he was actually responsible for covered only the extra food that had already been prepared. That’s quite different from the impression viewers got during his original livestream. His initial comments had left people thinking that the restaurant was making him pay for thousands of dollars’ worth of orders placed by strangers. But according to his clarification, the misunderstanding over the final bill was a major reason behind his reaction. He hasn’t shared the exact amount he eventually paid, though.

Streamer apologises after restaurant receives attention

Lacy has also acknowledged that the situation created unwanted attention for Zauo Shibuya. He said he never wanted people to target the restaurant or send it hate. In his view, the blame wasn’t entirely on the establishment. The viewers who placed the orders played a part, but he also accepted responsibility for how he spoke about the incident before understanding what had happened. He added that he had contacted the restaurant to make things right and apologised for not clearing up the confusion earlier. It’s a fairly significant change in tone from his original reaction, which helped bring the incident into the spotlight in the first place.

Zauo Shibuya reportedly had a different account

While Lacy has explained his side, another part of the controversy involves screenshots allegedly showing a response from the restaurant. The translated message circulating online reportedly denied that customers were being charged for food they hadn’t ordered.According to the screenshots, restaurant staff check orders with customers and charge them only for the food they actually consume. However, there’s a catch. The screenshots haven’t been independently verified, and the restaurant’s official social media accounts did not appear to have published a public statement addressing the incident. So, it’s worth treating the circulating message as an alleged response rather than a confirmed official statement.

The ₹10 lakh figure wasn’t the final bill

Lacy’s clarification has cleared up one major point: the $12,000 (approximately ₹10 lakh) figure was what he initially believed he owed, not necessarily what he eventually paid. And that distinction matters.A livestream clip can quickly become the entire story online, especially when viewers are reacting in real time. But in this case, Lacy says he didn’t have all the information when he first spoke about the restaurant bill. The exact amount he paid for the additional food remains unknown. What is clear is that he has since apologised and accepted that his initial reaction contributed to the controversy. What started with viewers spotting a QR code has now turned into a much bigger discussion about livestreaming, online pranks and the people who end up dealing with their consequences in the real world.
