NEW DELHI: With over five months to go for the fiscal year to close, Centre has topped its disinvestment and asset monetisation target of Rs 80,000 crore for 2026-27, with its kitty swelling to Rs 88,665 crore once the IDBI Bank stake sale is completed – providing much-needed cushion in a year, when it is burdened with higher fuel and fertiliser subsidies. The Rs 26,500 crore from the IDBI transaction will add to the Rs 55,757 crore it has already raised from share sales, including the mega offer for sale of LIC shares that raked in over Rs 31,000 crore. Besides, it has mopped up Rs 6,367 crore through asset monetisation. While more share sales on exchanges are under process, Rs 15,000-20,000 crore is targeted to be generated from InvITs, involving highways. There has also been talk of monetising some of the stadiums in the capital but it is still on the drawing board. There is uncertainty around the much-delayed transaction involving Hotel Ashok due to security concerns.Even dividend flow is strong, with RBI announcing record dividend of nearly Rs 2.9 lakh crore and banks expected to deliver a bumper payout amid strong growth. RBI, banks and financial institutions were budgeted to pay just under Rs 3.2 lakh crore as dividends this year. Separately, PSUs have deposited Rs 17,773 crore in the treasury.Officials said the revenue situation is also looking comfortabl,e with direct taxes showing steady rise, while GST is so far above target. Despite the hit due to reduction in levies on petrol, the Centre appears on course to better the indirect tax target.
