Kangana Ranaut has opened up about the deep-rooted patriarchal mindset in Himachal Pradesh, where families are often unhappy when a girl child is born. The actress shared her thoughts on X after a video of a Himachali woman who gave birth 11 times, having ten daughters before finally having a son, went viral. A user on X shared the video and criticised the mindset behind it, writing, “Imagine making a woman go through pregnancy after pregnancy, basically her entire life, just because having 10 daughters still wasn’t enough. How badly do you have to dehumanise a woman to reduce her entire existence to one job: produce a son.”Responding to the post, Kangana Ranaut agreed and shared her own experiences. She wrote, “In Himachal this mindset is worse than any other state I feel, I remember when one of my cousins had a second baby girl, people poured into their home for condolences, she called me and cried that relatives/people are coming to talk to her like someone has died, she just can’t take it anymore, I was not shocked but helpless.”She further added, “One of my cousin’s wife was in depression because she had a second girl child, family and husband were very supportive but she didn’t want to see the baby’s face or touch her, it was so bad that she had to be admitted, now she is ok but it was beyond traumatic even for the older daughter, very sad situation out there.”

On the work front, Kangana Ranaut’s most recent film, ‘Bharat Bhhagya Viddhaata’, is directed by Manoj Tapadia and is based on the true story of nurses and staff at Cama Hospital who saved patients’ lives during the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks. The film had an underwhelming theatrical run and is set to premiere on Zee5 on August 14.
