Quote of the Day from the Bible, 29th October 2026: Your Past Does Not Have to Define This New Month; Discover the Promise of Fresh Mercy in Lamentations 3:22–23
Lamentations 3:22–23 offers a perspective on renewal through God’s daily mercies. These verses emphasize that compassion never runs dry, allowing individuals to seek forgiveness. The author reflects on Jerusalem’s fall yet finds hope in the divine promise of faithfulness. Personal accountability is encouraged, highlighting that regrets can be addressed and new beginnings embraced. This message is particularly relevant at the start of a new month.

The first of the month often brings a quiet urge to start over. A clean page in the diary. A new budget pinned to the fridge. Yet last month’s mistakes have a way of following people into the next one.Lamentations 3:22–23 offers a deeper kind of fresh start:“It is of the LORD’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.”These words come from one of the darkest books in the Bible, which makes them all the more striking.

Written in the Ruins

Lamentations mourns the fall of Jerusalem in 586 BC. The temple lay in ruins, and many people had been taken into exile.Tradition links the book with Jeremiah. Whoever wrote it had watched the city burn.

Hope Chosen in the Dark

The first twenty verses of chapter 3 are full of grief. The writer speaks of heavy chains and bitterness. Then verse 21 turns. He calls something to mind, and that memory gives him hope. His circumstances had not changed. His focus had.

Compassion That Never Runs Dry

The Hebrew word for “compassions” is linked to the word for womb. It suggests a mother’s tender care for her child.“Fail not” means this care never runs out. A harsh word spoken last month or a promise broken in September did not use it up.

New Every Morning

God’s mercies arrive daily. Nobody has to save them up or earn a new supply.Someone who lost their temper with a child yesterday can apologise today and begin again. A person who slipped back into an old habit does not need to wait for January to try once more.Read these two verses aloud at breakfast tomorrow. Then deal with one leftover regret from last month, perhaps a message that still needs sending.

The Deeper Meaning of Lamentations 3:22–23

Chapter 3 is written as an acrostic, with each group of three verses beginning with the next letter of the Hebrew alphabet. Grief here is shaped with great care.Verse 24 follows with a personal declaration. The writer calls the LORD his portion and resolves to hope in him.Faithfulness is the closing word of verse 23. The past may still sting, yet it does not get the final say over the month ahead.
