Salman Khan’s ‘Maatrubhumi’ to be screened by CBFC this week; war drama likely to arrive on Diwali or Christmas this year – Report

Salman Khan‘s war drama ‘Maatrubhumi’, which has made headlines over its title change and delayed release, may soon get a release date. The Apoorva Lakhia directorial is likely to hit screens this year, with Diwali or Christmas under consideration.

Diwali or Christmas release on the cards

Apart from Salman Khan, the film also stars Chitrangda Singh. According to people close to the project, the team will lock a date once the censor process is complete. A Hindustan Times report stated, “The film is in the process of being viewed by the CBFC this week. There have been no other changes. Salman Khan’s films have traditionally been family entertainers, so there is little reason to anticipate major objections from the censor board. Once passed, the team is looking at a Diwali or Christmas release.“

From ‘Battle of Galwan’ to ‘Maatrubhumi’

The film was earlier titled ‘Battle of Galwan’. It reportedly went through reshoots after objections to its initial anti-China stance. Some recent reports claimed the I&B Ministry had cleared the revised version. However, the report said the government never stopped the film. It added, “Maatrubhumi has never been halted by the government, and reports suggesting otherwise are mere speculation.”

What is next for the film

For now, all eyes are on the CBFC viewing. If the film is passed without trouble, the makers are expected to announce an official date soon. Fans of Salman Khan have been waiting for the war drama for a long time.

How ‘Maatrubhumi’ got stuck

‘Maatrubhumi’ was earlier titled ‘Battle of Galwan’ and is based on the 2020 clash between Indian and Chinese troops in the Galwan Valley. Reports suggested the government had concerns over how the story showed China, which reportedly led to a title change and reshoots and delayed the release. Some reports also claimed the I&B Ministry had to clear the revised cut. However, those reports have been denied, and such claims were called speculation. Nothing has been officially confirmed on the release date yet.
